CCFY is committed to the safety and development of youth across California in a wide variety of activities. While we can agree with the author's attempt to provide increased regulation for day camps, a mission we have pursued for more than a decade, we cannot support this bill as it is written. There are provisions which we feel make camps LESS safe. Additionally, many of the provisions in the bill would make it prohibitive for camps to operate at all, leading to the end of vital programs that are dedicated to the development of children outside of traditional school settings. For those reasons, CCFY must oppose SB 217 as it is currently written. Further details can be found at each of these links:
